Pre-Laser Treatment Care
- Consultation: Schedule a consultation with one of our qualified laser specialist to assess your suitability for the treatment, discuss your goals, and address any concerns.
- Sun Avoidance: Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for at least four to six weeks before your laser treatment. Sun exposure can increase the risk of complications and adverse reactions.
- Sunscreen: If you must be in the sun, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect the treatment area. Apply it generously and reapply as needed.
- Shaving: You may need to shave the treatment area a day or two before the procedure. Follow any specific instructions provided by your practitioner.
- Skin Care Products: Stop using any skin care products containing retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) for a week or more before treatment, as these can increase skin sensitivity.
- Avoidance of Certain Medications: Inform your practitioner about any medications you are taking, especially if you are on antibiotics or medications that make your skin more sensitive to light. Adjustments may be needed.
- Clean Skin: Ensure the treatment area is clean and free of lotions, creams, perfumes, and makeup on the day of your appointment.
- Pain Management: Pain is minimal but if you are concerned about pain during the procedure, ask your practitioner if a topical anesthetic can be applied before the treatment.
Post-Laser Treatment Care
- Sun Protection: After the treatment, continue to avoid sun exposure. Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and wear protective clothing, including wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses.
- Cool Compress: Apply a cool compress or cold pack to the treated area if you experience any discomfort, redness, or swelling. Avoid ice directly on the skin.
- Avoid Irritation: Avoid harsh skin care products, exfoliation, and hot baths or showers for the first few days after treatment to prevent irritation.
- Moisturise: Use a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated. Your practitioner may recommend a specific product.
- Avoid Picking or Scrubbing: Do not pick at scabs, blisters, or any flaking skin. Let the skin heal naturally to reduce the risk of scarring.
- Avoid Makeup: Avoid applying makeup to the treated area until your practitioner gives the green light.
